November is a time for being thankful. As President, I am very thankful for all of the hard work so many of you put forth to make our social, service and fundraising events a success. Everyone plays an important role and everyone is necessary to the success of the club. Whether you are on the team that organized the event, a worker bee, or a participant. Everyone is important and needed!

want to give shout out to TEAM BINGOmania. Thanks to Tanya who stepped in to help then took on the event as chair and to the team of members who worked so hard to put together a successful and FUN event. Thank you to Tanya, Anne, Suzanne, Christina, Marie, Karen, Kate, Nancy, Toni, and everyone who worked the event to make it a success. THANK YOU!!!

Thank you in advance to all the hosts and co-hosts for Dessert 8’s. This is an event not to be missed. Not only is wonderful food and desserts served, it is a great chance to get to know your fellow members in a small setting. There is still time to sign up! An added benefit to this fun evening is that the chairs are asking each member to bring a new bra or gently used women’s career clothing to either the November General Meeting or to their Dessert Party. Items will be donated to Career Dress, one of our charities who spoke last month at our General Meeting.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving with their family and friends!

Its is a club tradition that every year, the president selects a symbol that represents our club and goals for the term. As my symbol I selected the sea turtle.

The turtle represents so many things but perhaps most importantly the turtle gracefully teaches us the art of adapting to new surroundings and environments. The Sea Turtle opens us up to experimenting with new terrains and ideas, while maintaining a comfortable self pace.  The message is not to push yourself so fast that you make errors and miss opportunities.  The turtle knows that all things come in perfect and divine timing sharing the golden lesson of patience.

As we all know turtles have  a shell that becomes it’s home, whenever it is threatened it retreats to safety of it’s shell…this brings symbolic meaning from the turtle that you too can do the same, by creating a spiritual shield that is your armor against negativity, harmful influences, and painful memories. In retreat gather your inner wisdom and emerge strengthened and prepared to move forward.

Sea turtles are known for their long lives and calm demeanor, turtles represent wisdom, perseverance and longevity.  They serve to remind us to stay true to ourselves even as the club and circumstances around us change. Turtle wisdom encourages us to see what most problems are – tiny bumps on the long road of life.

Advice from a Sea Turtle:

  • Come out of your shell
  • Be well-rounded
  • Know when to stick your neck out
  • Log time with friends
  • Home is where your heart is
  • Snap out of it
  • Swim with the Current
  • Be a good navigator
  • Stay calm under pressure
  • Be well traveled
  • Think long term
  • Age gracefully
  • Spend time at the beach

I’m looking forward serving as president for the club that means so much to our community.

At the beginning of the year in my first Scannings article, the following questions were posed: What direction are we heading into as a club? What have we been historically known for and how do we carry on the club’s legacy? What do members want from the club? What needs to be done to make this a successful year and to meet our financial commitments? How do we increase awareness of the club within the community? How do we better focus on “serving the community”? How do we engage our new and veteran members, as well as, inspire new members to join?

Big hats, mint juleps and an evening of fun, Ladies! Less than a week away, we will have our final fundraising event of the club year; the 3rd Annual Haute to Trot Kentucky Derby Event to be held at Van Hoosen Farm on Saturday, May 6th! The Derby Chairs Christie Pipkin and Lori Wilson, and Co-Chair, Kate DiLiddo, have delightful plans in store for our guests and members! It will be a very exciting event, not only because we are raising funds for three incredible charities, but also because it will be the first time we’ve held this event at the historic Van Hoosen Farm! It will be a fun-filled evening filled with all things Kentucky Derby!
